How to transfer to Deakin

Make the switch in a few simple steps. If you have any questions along the way, call us on 1800 693 888 to get the support you need, fast.

  1. Find your course

Find the course you want to transfer into. Read the entry requirements on the course page to make sure you’re eligible, and double check there’s an intake for the trimester you want to start studying in.

  2. Get your academic transcript

If you’re currently or were previously studying at a tertiary level, contact your education provider and ask them to supply a copy of your academic transcript (with a key to results). You’ll need it when applying for your course and recognition of prior learning. In addition to your transcript, you'll also need to provide:

    • details of course structure and credit point weightings from your previous institution’s handbook or website
    • a unit outline or syllabus, including assessment requirements, credit point weighting of units and details of textbooks and references.
  3. Apply for your course and recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Submit your RPL application while applying for your course in Deakin's Application Portal. You’ll be prompted to let us know if you’re applying for RPL, and you can have your RPL application assessed one of two ways:

    • General credit – tick ‘Yes’ in the RPL section of the applicant portal to have your application assessed for general credit.
    • Credit for specific units – to have specific units from your previous course assessed, complete and submit the RPL application form (available in the applicant portal) at the same time as your course application.

While applying, there will be opportunities to upload the documents gathered in step two. If you're offered admission into a course at Deakin, your credit entitlement will be confirmed with your offer, or as soon as possible afterwards. Browse our how to apply pages for step-by-step instructions on course applications.

  4. Accept your offer and withdraw from your old course

We’ll process your application and check that you’re eligible for the course you’ve applied for. Once Deakin sends you an offer of admission, you’re ready to formally accept it. At this point, it's a good idea to withdraw from your old course. You'll need to do this before your previous education provider's census date.

  5. Enrol

When you receive your offer, you'll be provided with all the information you need to enrol. In the meantime, you can celebrate the start of your next exciting chapter.

Guaranteed pathway to your dream degree

Moving from TAFE to university just got easier! Deakin recognises your achievements and offers guaranteed recognition of prior learning (RPL) for eligible TAFE qualifications, as well as Deakin's associate degrees and Deakin College qualifications.

Guaranteed RPL saves you study time and money, getting you closer to your dream course faster. Use our pathways finder too to unlock your potential and discover the many pathways to a degree at Deakin.
